Ocean cruise line. Rotterdam saw the start of Holland America in 1873, as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company running transatlantic passenger and cargo services. It is a Carnival Corporation & plc subsidiary today.

Holland America Line sails mid-size ships on routes through Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and the Mediterranean, plus longer voyages that cross whole oceans. Its Dutch roots show in the name and the style on board.
The pace is calmer than on the biggest ships. Most days are built around good meals, live music, talks and time in port, and many routes can be stretched into a longer trip.
