Eagles' Nest History: The Obersalzberg, Bunker and Berchtesgaden
4.7 / 5 · 1,237 traveler reviews

The breathtaking mountain scenery and beautiful landscape of the Berchtesgadener Land will impress you. We’ll drive up to an altitude of about 1,000 meters, where you’ll have the opportunity to visit the “Dokumentation Obersalzberg” museum on the Obersalzberg for a fee with a historical bunker complex. Our guide will provide you with comprehensive information about the historical events and lead a short walking tour on the Obersalzberg to the ruins of the “Berghof”. Since the Eagle’s Nest burned down on October 23, 2026, we are currently unable to offer a trip up to this historic viewpoint. However, you can see the building from a distance from the Obersalzberg. Afterward, we’ll drive into the town of Berchtesgaden for a short stop, where our tour guide will lead a guided tour of the town in English. Part of the return trip will take us along the German Alpine Road.

We’ll meet at 8:15 a.m. at Sonnenstrasse 1, 80331 Munich. There you’ll find a tour bus marked “Mentor Reisen,” and our friendly driver and guide will welcome you as you check in. We’ll depart at 8:30 a.m. and drive past several Munich landmarks (which the guide will explain) on our way to Eagles Nest/Obersalzberg. Don't forget your passport!!!
Stop 2
This part of the tour can no longer be offered because the Eagles' Nest burned down on October 23! Our guides are offering an additional walking tour of the Obersalzberg! In addition, we will spend more time at the “Documentation Obersalzberg” (for a fee) and in the town of Berchtesgaden.
Stop 3
Our guides are offering an additional walking tour of the Obersalzberg! You will also have free time. During this time, you can have lunch at the "Berggasthof Obersalzberg" (at your own expense) or go directly to the Obersalzberg Documentation Center. The restaurant is located in the terrace hall of the former “General Walker” hotel, making it a historic building on the Obersalzberg.
Stop 4
The Obersalzberg Museum traces the history of Obersalzberg as a center of power during the Nazi era. It is a very interesting exhibition that reopened in 2023 following renovation and expansion. There, you can also tour the bunker complexes from the Nazi era. Admission fee is 4,50 Euro per person.
